1959
The Pioneer Wyoming license plates made their appearance in 1959.
The plates were issued by lottery, with number 1 being won by Boyd Ash of Chugwater.
The lowest numbered Casper plate was number 4, issued to Jim Greenslate.
Bruce Thompson and his family show off plate number 24 on his 1911 International Harvester Touring Car.
The Pioneer Wyoming plates have not changed since being introduced in 1959.
A modern Pioneer plate is shown for reference.
Nowadays, car dealers reserve their new model introductions for their showrooms.
In 1959, the dealers (all 12 of them) used downtown Casper for the introductions, when new cars were truly worthy of celebration.
For contrast, the old cars of HCCA were made part of the celebration. Note Mrs. Edness Kimball Wilkins.
